Rekey when the hardware is sound
Rekeying changes the internal pins so the old keys no longer work. It is usually the right choice when the deadbolts and knobs operate smoothly, fit the door correctly, and provide the level of security you want.
Multiple compatible locks can often be keyed alike, reducing the number of keys you carry. This is one reason move-in rekeys are Ninja Lock’s most common residential service.
Replace when condition or security calls for it
Replace hardware that is damaged, loose, corroded, unreliable, or poorly aligned. Replacement is also appropriate when you want Grade 1 hardware, a different finish, a smart lock, or a restricted key system.
A new lock will not compensate for a weak door or strike area. Good installation looks at the entire opening, not just the product box.
A sensible move-in plan
Count every exterior lock, including garage and side doors. Decide which doors should share a key. Photograph the hardware and call for a quote. I can tell you which items are likely rekeyable and which may need closer inspection.
