Start with grade and construction
Grade 1 hardware is built for higher strength and duty cycles. Grade 2 is a practical residential choice for many doors. Either can perform poorly if the bolt binds or the strike is attached to weak material.
Coastal conditions matter
Salt air and humidity can accelerate corrosion. Finish, material, maintenance, and exposure all matter. A protected inland entry has different needs from a door near the coast.
Smart does not replace mechanical fit
Keypads and connected features are useful, but the bolt must move freely. Binding increases battery use and causes unreliable locking. Fix alignment before blaming the electronics.
Strengthen the opening
A longer strike plate and suitable fasteners can improve the connection to the frame. The entire door system should be considered when upgrading security.
